Nope! Green onions (a.k.a. scallions) are young onions with long, hollow green tops and small white bulbs—mild, fresh, and perfect for garnishing. Leeks, on the other hand, are bigger, with thick, flat leaves and a sweeter, more delicate onion flavor. Think of green onions as the zippy sidekick and leeks as the sophisticated, slow-cooked star!

Do Green onions grow from seeds?

Yes! Green onions can grow from seeds. For healthy harvests, start your Green Onion seeds in a well-draining medium like Coco Peat, give them plenty of sunshine, and let the magic happen! With good care and lots of love, your seeds will germinate within just 6-8 days, and in 80-150 days, you will have homegrown green onions ready to be harvested!

Should green onion seeds be soaked before planting?

Soaking green onion seeds isn’t a must, but it gives them a head start! A quick 12-hour soak in water softens the seed coat, speeding up germination. If you're feeling extra fancy, try a compost tea soak for a nutrient boost! But don’t worry—these little champs will sprout just fine without it too!

Which is the best month to sow onion seeds?

The best time to sow green onion seeds depends on your climate! In cooler regions, late winter to early spring (January-March) is ideal. If you're in a warmer spot, go for late summer to early fall (August-October). Onions love mild weather, so time it right for a happy, bountiful harvest!

How many days do green onion seeds take to germinate?

Green onion seeds are little patience testers! They usually take 6-10 days to germinate, depending on temperature and moisture. Want to speed things up? Keep the soil warm (around 20°C) and consistently moist. Before you know it, tiny green shoots will pop up, ready to grow into your next delicious garnish!
